Breast Biopsy
Why is Dakota Women’s Imaging a good choice for my breast biopsy?
A radiologist guided breast biopsy is a nice alternative to the more invasive and sometimes unnecessary hospital surgical biopsy. Several benefits include:
The local radiologist who studied your exam knows exactly where he or she has concerns and therefore is the best suited to do the biopsy.
- No scars are left which can cause shadows on future mammography films.
- Less fear, anxiety and breast deformity vs. surgical breast biopsy.
- Faster procedure without the need for hospitalization.
- Cost savings vs. surgical breast biopsy.
How do I prepare for the exam?
Your skin should be clean and free of any deodorant, perfume, powder, ointment or other preparation in your underarm area or on your breasts. Residue from such preparations can create misleading results.
For your convenience, wear a blouse with a skirt or slacks rather than a dress, since it is necessary to undress to the waist for the examination.
Please arrive 20-30 minutes in advance of your appointment time to allow time for registration and history updates.
How long will the exam last?
Expect to be at Dakota Radiology between 1 and 1 ½ hours.
When will I get my results?
The radiologist will contact your referring physician with about a day – after pathology results have been returned from the lab.
